Michael Cooper on the Liberal gutting of Wynn’s Law

May 18, 2017

In 2015 RCMP Const. David Wynn was killed by a man who should have never been out on bail. But the killer was out, despite a lengthy criminal history, in large party because his past was not disclosed at his bail hearing. Wynn’s Law would close this legal loophole by changing one word in the criminal code, which would require criminal histories to be disclosed before a person is granted bail. Now, despite being passed by Conservative and Liberal MPs in the Senate, and a majority of MPs in the House of Commons, Justin Trudeau’s government has ordered the Liberal-dominated Justice Committee to gut the legislation. Michael Cooper (MP for St. Albert – Edmonton, Alberta), who sponsored Wynn’s Law in the House of Commons, joins Tony to discuss this public safety issue.
